Cory Band has released news of its future euphonium section. Musical Director Philip Harper said:
"As previously reported, after the sudden departure of Matthew White and with concerts to cover within a matter of days, it made sense to promote Martyn Patterson to the end-chair, and I was delighted when ex-Cory player Matthew Jenkins agreed to come in at short notice to bump Martyn. Matthew Jenkins was at band on Thursday and we are looking forward to having him on stage with us this weekend.
Subsequently I discovered that local euphonium star Dan Thomas had found himself with an eight-month gap in his diary before he starts at the RNCM in September. Having a player of Dan's quality floating was an opportunity too good to miss, so I had a chat with him and am delighted to announce that Dan will be a perfect short-term solution for Cory, playing number two to Martyn Patterson at the Welsh Regional in March. Dan has already had a stint with Cory a few years ago, and both his parents play with the band. He was of course the winner of the Best Euphonium Prize at the British Open just a few months ago, so I'm happy we're able to offer him a home for his last few months in Wales.
With such a strong short-term solution now in place, it gives me the time I need to assess all my long-term options in filling one of the most important seats in the band."
