Plans are underway for the third Bolsover Summer School in Bolsover, Derbyshire, from 26 July and 1 August this year.
Directed by Foden's Band principals - Mark Wilkinson and Glyn Williams, (respectively cornets and euphoniums), plus tutors Stewart Baglin, Helen Williams, David Hirst, Brett Baker and Simone Rebello.
As well as private lessons, master classes and a tutors treat concert, delegates will perform in solos, duets or group ensembles.
This year the Summer School has also commissioned Philip Sparke to write an eight-minute work for brass band and narration to commemorate the centenary of World War 1. Delegates can additionally attend an Audience with Philip Sparke, during which he will talk about his compositions and hold a Q+A session before working with the band on his new commission. Budding or interested parties (not on the Summer School) are invited to spend the day with Philip Sparke and the band, when they will receive lunch, as well as attending the class and rehearsal with the popular composer. The cost of this is £10 to cover the catering costs.
Band delegates will also perform at three out door venues - Dobbies Garden Centre, Bolsover Castle and Renishaw Gardens, and tutors solo at the grand finale concert at Heritage High School on Friday 1 August 2014.
Anyone requiring information on the Summer School or attending an audience with Philip Sparke is asked to contact carole.hirst@bolsover.gov.uk
